Growell Ornamental Plants was set up to represent New Zealand Breeders interests around the world and within New Zealand.
With a wealth of superior, exciting new plant material being bred in New Zealand by our leading team of breeders, Growell specializes not only in New Zealand natives but also an increasing amount of exotic varieties. Our breeders are experienced “Plants-People” with a love of plants who enjoy working with trusted, respected and likeminded people.
The Growell network stretches around the globe working with companies Growell feels will be in the best interests of the breeder and the plants. With over 60 different plants under Growell control and more coming on stream all the time, Growell has established itself as one of the most experienced and trusted Plant Agency’s in New Zealand.
Growell was originally set up by John and Terri van der Elst in the mid 1990’s born of a need to give New Zealand Breeders a viable option to market and sell their plants on the International stage and to be fairly recompensed for their endeavors. John and Terri built Growell up and in recent years enlisted the help of Ross Bayliss who with the help of his wife Lorraine have invested in John and Terri’s original dream. They now run the business from their North Canterbury property which is the home of Bayliss Nurseries Ltd.
Ross is a fourth generation nurseryman with over 30 years experience (see About).

Berberis thunbergii 'Maria'
Barberries are well-known shrubs for gardens and public areas.
Berberis thunbergii is a deciduous shrub, usually with handsome coloured foliage and attractive autumn colours.
The habit of various cultivars ia also of ornamental value. Berberis thunbergii 'Maria' is an eye-catcher that combines all these features. More info here.
Helleborus 'Moonshine'
Christmas Roses or Hellebores are very popular perennials. Mainly because they flower during winter en offer excellent possibilities as pot or tub plant. 'Moonshine' is a sterile hybrid between Helleborus sternii and Helleborus 'White Magic'. More info here.
